The Musical "I hope you had the time of your life." 8.6.13

10/6/13
Hello everyone, I'm glad A-levels is finally over and I would also like to thank Zahir for updating the blog on my behalf for the past three to four meetings as I was busy my studies. I AM FREE NOWWWWWWWWWWWWWW. Thank you, Zahir.

The meeting started off with everyone introducing themselves and this was led by our very own president, Zahir Ahmad, CC CL. He asked, "What do you think about music?". The responses range from "I know I'm supposed to The Beatles when I have grey hair" to "LINKIN PARK MAKES REAL MUSIC. They are honest and realistic with their music and I love that."

TOTE Dylan Chew CL

then took control and gave the meeting a kickstart with the usual reminder of where Toastmasters were founded.

"Dr Ralph C. Smedley, 1924 in the basement of YMCA Santa Ana, California," the audience replied in a casual tone, indicating that they will indeed score an A+ if they were to sit for a History of Toastmasters examination. Then, Fan Chen Keat DTM delivered his invocation speech.

Rachel Hiu, upcomign VPPR of the club then took over control of the lectern and Table Topics started!

I was first to volunteer and my topic was 'Are you a Les Miserables fan?' I would say I did a terrible job in pronouncing it (made it sound like less-miss-hur-ra-bless).

Next was, Ashikin who was once again Miss Fabulous (refer to picture below) and talked with ease and eloquence, revealing no signs of anxiety.

Then we had Ben a.k.a Hong Beng who won Best Table Topics award!

The penultimate speaker was Seng Kiat who clearly expressed his love for music and creatively interpreted his topic 'The Sound of Music'.

The last speaker was Fan Chen Keat DTM who coolly answered his topic 'Which musical would you wish to be in?'.

Leon Saw was the Table Topics evaluator of the day!

Yesterday we had five amazing speakers and they were..

Hong Beng who delivered his icebreaker (*standing ovation) about how his life is resembled not by an onion like one of his peers, but a tough coconut.

Thinesh from Sunway University TMC who told us about his weird life as CC#6. From being asked to be a supermodel to having had someone greet him with the line 'Eh how is your wife and kids ah?'. Yes, I think we can all agree it's weird. (but awesome)

Hean Mae from D Utama Advanced TMC who delivered a speech (CC#9) revolving around the subject of choices. With a stern facial expression, she implored that we should not neglect the sacrifices our parents have made for us while telling us a story about her friend who was once a cancer patient.

Shaun Liew, CC with his first project in the Storytelling manual. He told us a story about a stonecutter who could become anything he wanted to be (like a rock, yes. A rock.) because high in the mountains dwelt a spirit who could grant people's wishes like a genie.

Zahir Ahmad, CC CL with his penultimate speech project in the Humorously Speaking manual. "Ain't nobody got time fo dat!" he said. Yes, Zahir is a busy man. Very funny as well as he expressed his concern for people who sometimes claim to be 'too busy'.

Of course with speakers, there must be evaluators! Firstly, Jeff Foong CC from DU Advanced TMC took control of the evaluation session.

Thank you Seng Kiat, Timothy, Fan Chen Keat, Sarah and Hui Shan for taking up the most important role ever for any speaker who embarks on a Toastmasters adventure.
Subbra the grammar nazi was fantastic with his grammarian's report and Nawal (high girl from Sunway Uni TMC) delivered her Ah Counter report. Wen Hang was the timekeeper and last but not least it ended with a thorough report from Jeff the General Evaluator!

Best Table Topics speaker was....

HONG BENG! (the coconut)

Best Speaker was...

ZAHIR AHMAD! (who was too busy to remain calm)

Best Evaluator was..

TIMOTHY! (Obviously didn't want him to win...)

Here is a picture of Zahir singing :D

I sincerely hope everyone had fun. Do visit again everyone! :D

Signing off,
Shaun Liew
