Humorous Speech and Evaluation contest - review

On the 17 August 2013, Taylor's university Toastmaster's Club held our Humorous Speech and Evaluation Contest. Lots of people attended the event, well, considering our event happened to fall on the same day as a talk by How to be a Professional Emcee". Yean Yi (oraganisng chair) really did her best pulling this this event.

At 1.30pm, contestants (me included) were briefed on how the contest is going to be like yada yada yada.. and the event started at 2 something.

After the break was the evaluation session:

Test Speaker, JP, from the Philippines

As there are only 4 participants competing in the humorous speech competition, only two winners were chosen.

2nd place for humorous speech contest

Next up was the evaluation contest prize-giving session:
1st place for evaluation contest

"People, Purpose, Passion" TUTMC 3rd Meeting

The original venue LT11, where our club usually held our meetings decided to have a technical problem on our meeting day, another wise a  fine Saturday morning. Being toastmasters, we make use of any space to continue our toastmasters meeting. Therefore, we moved to a empty cafeteria just outside our usual venue, LT11.(we make proper use of the table and chairs of course). Chui Ling, TM then called the meeting to order.

Presidential Opening address by Dylan Chew

Toasmaster of the morning, Yean Yi, CC

Next was the table topics session, me being the table topicmaster this time*evil grins*. First volunteer that came up (showing great support) was Zahir(our very own Immediate Past President). His Topic was Which country would you like to travel to and why?

"I would go on a hot air balloon in Turkey " says Zahir.

Next was guest Adrian who was *uh um* sorta-forced by Yean Yi to be the next *volunteer*.

Adrian aims to build flying cars and solar powered cars.
Topic: If the sky is NOT the limit, what is the one thing that you want to do?

Fan Chen Keat, DTM talked about how the movie Pacific Rim inspire him the most although he admits that he is one that gets inspired by books rather than movies.

The last table topic speaker was Qiu (a girl, mind you) whose passion was maths, science and Aeronautical.

Pepared speeches were started off by Marilyn from Sunway TMC.

Heads up, Phones Down, Voice Out - Marilyn

Second prepared speaker, Fan Chen Keat, DTM (ex- Taylor's University Club Advisor) proceeds to promote toastmaster to everyone in attendance. His project manual was to promote with conviction. I'd say a lot of us are pretty convinced.

Icebreaker Anny speaks about herself. A naturally humourous person.

Time for the Evaluation session :

Dylan listening intently as Table Topic Evaluator

Zahir evaluates Marilyn's speech

Sarah Abedi evaluates all areas of Fan Chen Keat's speech

Ashkay(a.k.a Ash) giving an evaluation to Anny's icebreaker speech

Thiiban (right) Ah-counter of the day from Taylor's Sri Hartamas

"Only 3 person used the word Ardour (word of the day) " Lalitha (grammarian of the day) announced.

Concise Timing given by Ashikin

General Evaluatoe, Arthur Lai giving a overall evaluation.

*Drumrolls*, the following awards which are presented are most voted by the people present!

Zahir, TM won the best table topic speaker

Best prepared speech won by Fan Chen Keat, DTM
