Taking You to the Next Step Workshop

October 22nd, Saturday, it was a special day for Taylor's University Toastmasters Club as we've invited TWO awesome speakers from Quaritas Sdn Bhd to come and give a workshop to our club members and for Taylorians who are interested.
This is their web link http://quaritase.com/

The response of this event went pretty well, our club did not do much of promotions but the registration kept on coming in. And yes, we've received MORE than what we've estimated!!!
That's really good news!!
We were really glad to have all these interested people at our workshop.
And of course, as predicted, the workshop went of pretty well and most of them gave good feedback for it.

Our speakers for the day, Tariqua Amina and Jordan Grose.
Don't you like their smiles?
:)

 ICE BREAKING SESSION!!
Yes this is where everyone gets to know each other and all of them were randomly picked.
So most of them are really unprepared.
But that doesn't make much of a difference as everyone managed to overcome them and came out with a good introduction of themselves.

This is one of them who claims that she have phobia for public speaking.
Look where she is now. Standing in front of the crowd and presenting herself in front of everyone.
:D
When there's a will, there's a way.

 I'm walking, I'm walking, I'm walking....
Our activity based interactions.
So much different from what we learn in classrooms.

We were also divided into groups for discussions.

 Groups presentations.

And yes, giving out of certificates.
That's where everyone is most excited about.

Well the whole workshop ended slightly later than the estimated time.
THIS SHOWS HOW MUCH THEY LOVE THE WORKSHOP DON'T YOU THINK SO?
:)

Well, if you missed this workshop, make sure you keep yourself constantly updated by dropping us an email to inquire about our activities.
Or you can click onto our upcoming event tab to find out what activities we have.

Come to us and have fun!!

Club's 1st Humorous Speech and Evaluation Contest

Here we go, having our first ever Humorous Speech and Evaluation Contest for our club.
It was really a fresh start for all of us as we don't have any experience in this type of competition before.
We certainly have grown from this competition as it really broadens our perception on how a contest is supposed to look like.

Below will be some pictures of that day, August 20th 2011.

This is Sanjay, one of our Time Keeper for that day, from MAS Toastmasters Club.
Yes indeed, the competition indeed creates laughter and smiles just like what you can see from him.

A BIG thank you to all role players who are present on that day.
Your presence really made a big difference and we sense the support given from all of you.
Thanks a lot!!!!
And we hope to see you all again for our next year's competition.

Congratulations to the winners of the Evaluation contest, TM Kelly being the 1st runner up and TM Vincent being the Champion.

As for the humorous speech competition, congratulations to TM Zahir for being the 1st runner up and CC Maggie being the Champion.

And yes, the champions of our club went into the Area contest but unfortunately we did not have any results from that level. Nevermind, we are certain that we can get better results next year and we hope to push ourselves one step further and get a title for our self and for our club.

Till then, will see how we do next year then!!

Taylor's University Toastmasters' WILD SIDE

It was during our semester break, which is around the Merdeka and Hari Raya period few months back that all of us decided to come out for a social activity.

Thanks to our dear Vice President of Membership, Kelly, who suggested a pool party at her place.
Quite a number of our members were there, namely, Isabell, Kelly, Stephanie, Maggie, Vincent, Tze Jiet, Zahir, and Jillian.
We also have Bryan from HELP's TM club, Shy (Jillian's friend) and Brendon (Kelly and Maggie's friend) together with us on that day.

We had tonnes and tonnes of fun and this shows that apart from speaking, we can do crazy things beyond YOUR EXPECTATION.
:)

Look at the pictures below to know what happened that day.

This is Maggie, our Vice President of Public Relations, being pushed down into the water even before the whole party starts. It was really innocent as she was just trying to pick up a ball from the pool side.
These people are just sick.

Special highlight from one of our club member Tze Jiet, who baked these chocolate chip cupcakes for us to add on to our menu for that day.
He's really good in this as they really tasted GOOD :D
He put LOTS of chocolate chips.

Well, this is all of us, having something to fill our stomachs first before doing some "exercise" in the pool.
We had Domino's, fizzy drinks, Kelly's home made sandwiches and so on.

Some group photos of us enjoying ourselves
:D

 More photos.

 Look at those happy faces.
:)
 Our President and Past President,
Isabell and Stephanie.
:D

Zahir and Bryan
:D

Another eating session as we've finished soaking ourselves in he pool.
We just love to eat sometimes.
:)

After cleaning ourselves, we went up to Kelly's home and played TABOO.
It was really a fun game as all of us were so excited when it comes to each other's turn to bring a message to their own team.

 Sense the tensity?
LOL, nahhhh it was more like it's a fun game to play.

 Vincent, Brendon, Tze Jiet

Kelly, the greedy one.
:)

 Another group photo.
We all just look good in the picture, don't you agree?

The best group photo ever.

We just love to have fun, like all other youngsters.

So, feel like joining us?

Well, WELCOME to the BIG FAMILY.
:D

Speech contests

Hey people! What's the purpose of joining Toastmasters again?

Sorry, what did you say???

Ahhh I heard IMPROVING PUBLIC SPEAKING SKILLS!

Awesome, we all knew the reasons of joining this club.
So, how do we improve our speaking skills then?

Well, apart from delivering speeches during regular meetings in clubs, we should also push ourselves further to JOIN SPEECH COMPETITIONS!!!

Do I stand a chance?

Of course you do!!!

We have two BIG opportunities right now, namely the Humorous Speech and Evaluation contest and also the Inter-varsity Public speaking competition.

The details of the event are so far as follows:

Humourous Speech and Evaluation Contest
Date: 20.08.11 (Saturday)
Time: TBC
Venue: TBC

Please note that this contest has two categories:

1. Humourous Speech
2. Evaluation

You may choose to take part in either one or both categories.

Next off, do we have the next Martin Luther King Jr. in our midst? It’s that time of year again for us to unleash great talents through the Taylor’s University Inter-Varsity Public Speaking Competition 2011.

This is a competition for Taylor's students only and they are to compete with the best from other institutions of higher learning and for them stand a chance to win up to RM 1500 in cash!

This year’s theme will center on “Diversity”, where competition will kick-off Round 1 with the topic   “Unity in Diversity”.

Closing date for entries is on 3rd August 2011 (Wednesday).

Fret not, you can just treat this as a regular speech delivery in a meeting.

Well, hope you all will be more keen to join competitions as it shows a bigger step of moving out of your comfort zone and also to gain exposure to the society.

After all, this is the point we join a public speaking club right?
Hope you all will volunteer to join, like how the people in the picture below do.

Taylor's TMC Induction and Installation Night

It was a rainy night on the 8th of June 2011.
It looks gloomy yet it wasn't, for us Taylor's University Toastmasters Club's members.

We all looked forward for this day to come as we are welcoming the new and also thanking the old.
For the "New"s we have of course, the new members and also the incoming new executive committee members.
As for the "Old"s, that will be our outgoing officers.

We chose the best restaurant, Backofen, with a cosy environment, although it was slightly noisy that night with someone else celebrating a birthday party, to celebrate this moment.

We start off the evening with the induction of the new members, done by the outgoing VP of membership, TM Maggie.
This is TM Maggie with her induction of new members speech.

New members on board from left, TM Zahir, TM Lih Hoe and TM Bryan (HELP).

The night moved on with TM Maggie's final speech in her Competent Communicator Manual, Speech #10, titled Speak with good purpose.

Our special guest for the night, our AG Jess Foong, who is the speech evaluator and also the person to install the incoming exco officers.

Being only 6 officers who attended the night, we all took our vows.
From top left :
TM Isabell- incoming president
TM Kelly- incoming VP Membership
TM Maggie- incoming VP Public Relations

From bottom left:
TM ReNee- incoming treasurer
TM Yean Yi- incoming secretary
TM- Vincent- incoming SAA

Our VP Education Cindy was absent due to personal reasons.
But that won't be a problem to us as we know that her passion is with us.

Next off, we have our Immediate Past President, CL Stephanie pass on the Presidential officer badge to our incoming President.

Followed by a speech given by our incoming president.

Not to forget, our teary-eyed outgoing president's speech.
She's always in such a mood.

But seriously, we know you've done SO SO SO SO SO MUCH for us.
Thanks for the guidance throughout your term.
And we were PROUD TO TELL THE WHOLE WORLD that
TAYLOR'S UNIVERSITY TOASTMASTERS CLUB
has achieved the DISTINGUISHED CLUB STATUS for the term 2010/11.
We can't get that without you.
Thanks a lot Stephanie, and also congratulations upon receiving the Assistant ADVG Edu-Training of Division B for term 2011/12

We were all very very very proud of you.
:)

*

Well okay, we're done with formalities for the night.

WHAT'S NEXT??

It's time for some Truth or Dare sessions!!!!!
And we were all really brave people that entertained the whole restaurant that night!
Hope we brought them laughter.

The truth session wasn't that much of an excitement for the night.
But as for the DARES..........

Let's check out the pictures below:

First off we have our new member TM Lih Hoe do some sexy pole dancing, and then TM ReNee with her Nobody dance moves by Wonder Girls and also we have TM Lih Hoe again to get himself seated in the baby chair for 10 seconds.

Not to forget, one of the highlight for the night will be TM Kelly singing a love song to the boss of Backofen's restaurant.
Take note with the boss' expression.

It was really a night full of giggles.
All of us had lots of fun.

Kudos to the outgoing officers and WELCOME ON BOARD, the incoming officers.

We shall continue our Toastmasters journey to a better, brighter and brilliant future.

Of course, with the leadership of our incoming president, TM Isabell.
