Speech contests

Hey people! What's the purpose of joining Toastmasters again?

Sorry, what did you say???

Ahhh I heard IMPROVING PUBLIC SPEAKING SKILLS!

Awesome, we all knew the reasons of joining this club.
So, how do we improve our speaking skills then?

Well, apart from delivering speeches during regular meetings in clubs, we should also push ourselves further to JOIN SPEECH COMPETITIONS!!!

Do I stand a chance?

Of course you do!!!

We have two BIG opportunities right now, namely the Humorous Speech and Evaluation contest and also the Inter-varsity Public speaking competition.

The details of the event are so far as follows:

Humourous Speech and Evaluation Contest
Date: 20.08.11 (Saturday)
Time: TBC
Venue: TBC

Please note that this contest has two categories:

1. Humourous Speech
2. Evaluation

You may choose to take part in either one or both categories.

Next off, do we have the next Martin Luther King Jr. in our midst? It’s that time of year again for us to unleash great talents through the Taylor’s University Inter-Varsity Public Speaking Competition 2011.

This is a competition for Taylor's students only and they are to compete with the best from other institutions of higher learning and for them stand a chance to win up to RM 1500 in cash!

This year’s theme will center on “Diversity”, where competition will kick-off Round 1 with the topic   “Unity in Diversity”.

Closing date for entries is on 3rd August 2011 (Wednesday).

Fret not, you can just treat this as a regular speech delivery in a meeting.

Well, hope you all will be more keen to join competitions as it shows a bigger step of moving out of your comfort zone and also to gain exposure to the society.

After all, this is the point we join a public speaking club right?
Hope you all will volunteer to join, like how the people in the picture below do.

Taylor's TMC Induction and Installation Night

It was a rainy night on the 8th of June 2011.
It looks gloomy yet it wasn't, for us Taylor's University Toastmasters Club's members.

We all looked forward for this day to come as we are welcoming the new and also thanking the old.
For the "New"s we have of course, the new members and also the incoming new executive committee members.
As for the "Old"s, that will be our outgoing officers.

We chose the best restaurant, Backofen, with a cosy environment, although it was slightly noisy that night with someone else celebrating a birthday party, to celebrate this moment.

We start off the evening with the induction of the new members, done by the outgoing VP of membership, TM Maggie.
This is TM Maggie with her induction of new members speech.

New members on board from left, TM Zahir, TM Lih Hoe and TM Bryan (HELP).

The night moved on with TM Maggie's final speech in her Competent Communicator Manual, Speech #10, titled Speak with good purpose.

Our special guest for the night, our AG Jess Foong, who is the speech evaluator and also the person to install the incoming exco officers.

Being only 6 officers who attended the night, we all took our vows.
From top left :
TM Isabell- incoming president
TM Kelly- incoming VP Membership
TM Maggie- incoming VP Public Relations

From bottom left:
TM ReNee- incoming treasurer
TM Yean Yi- incoming secretary
TM- Vincent- incoming SAA

Our VP Education Cindy was absent due to personal reasons.
But that won't be a problem to us as we know that her passion is with us.

Next off, we have our Immediate Past President, CL Stephanie pass on the Presidential officer badge to our incoming President.

Followed by a speech given by our incoming president.

Not to forget, our teary-eyed outgoing president's speech.
She's always in such a mood.

But seriously, we know you've done SO SO SO SO SO MUCH for us.
Thanks for the guidance throughout your term.
And we were PROUD TO TELL THE WHOLE WORLD that
TAYLOR'S UNIVERSITY TOASTMASTERS CLUB
has achieved the DISTINGUISHED CLUB STATUS for the term 2010/11.
We can't get that without you.
Thanks a lot Stephanie, and also congratulations upon receiving the Assistant ADVG Edu-Training of Division B for term 2011/12

We were all very very very proud of you.
:)

*

Well okay, we're done with formalities for the night.

WHAT'S NEXT??

It's time for some Truth or Dare sessions!!!!!
And we were all really brave people that entertained the whole restaurant that night!
Hope we brought them laughter.

The truth session wasn't that much of an excitement for the night.
But as for the DARES..........

Let's check out the pictures below:

First off we have our new member TM Lih Hoe do some sexy pole dancing, and then TM ReNee with her Nobody dance moves by Wonder Girls and also we have TM Lih Hoe again to get himself seated in the baby chair for 10 seconds.

Not to forget, one of the highlight for the night will be TM Kelly singing a love song to the boss of Backofen's restaurant.
Take note with the boss' expression.

It was really a night full of giggles.
All of us had lots of fun.

Kudos to the outgoing officers and WELCOME ON BOARD, the incoming officers.

We shall continue our Toastmasters journey to a better, brighter and brilliant future.

Of course, with the leadership of our incoming president, TM Isabell.
