TUTMC 5th Meeting of the Term 2013/2014. [RECAP]

Meeting Theme: Dreams & Desires

I have a hankering to tell a tale.

On the 14th day of September, year 2013, Taylor's University Toastmasters met again.
Acting President, Woon Yean Yi, CC  welcomed club members, guest and friends to LT11.
Speaking on the subject of a minor, an underdog. This man and person was part of the  resistant rather than the authority. When the odds are stacked up against you and hope seems bleak.

That is how Dreams and Desires came true.

"If you can dream it. You can do it" - Walt Disney

"Long story short, he was MY DAD!"

After the Presidential opening address, the Toastmaster of the Morning assumed the driving seat and had her share of tales. From Monash TMC, Hello Shalini, CL!

"From Ideogram to Manuals, Champagne and Mineral Water;
As an International Organization we have come far.
And, like they said, the rest, is history"

The TMOTM also sweeped through the room to get everyone to talk about a little dream which still lingers.

Crowd view from the Back.

Next, as per strict tradition was Table Topics. TT Master was Azwan, CC and he used the LT sound system with considerable purpose blasting out snippets of Song Topics!

"Just come up and speak about my random topics. No rules."

Takers/Topics:

1. Thian Seng - "Just Eat it" <Beat it Spoof>

2. Chen Keat "What is Love? Baby don't hurt me no more..."

3.Stephan Koo - "The boys are back in Town x3~"

4. Pravinan - "You are JUST A FRIEND"

Stephan Koo is back in Town!

" We would crawl into the drains and sewage as if it was an adventure. "

Now is time for the PREPARED SPEECH SESSION.

Up first was the guest from Monash TMC with their ever burning pride!
With his #CCM4 speech "Good Leader".

We present Mashuri or commonly known as
Mash!

"Be the kind of Leader, people follow voluntarily" - Mash

And the first of two Ice Breaker Speeches.

"Coming from an all boy family with my Mother an exception, I was so excited,
because I've never seen a girl before." - Pravinan Lai

The meeting took recces for *5 minutes*. Then came our Final Speech for the Day.

"Maybe I won't ever find my way; maybe I would just call this big maze my home."
- Ashikin

"How did we do?" is the constant question speakers posed themselves with.
So answers they will get, by the esteemed line of observant juries. Speech Evaluators!

"The Independence Day" TUTMC 4th Meeting of the term (2013/2014)

Hari Merdeka (Independence Day) is a national day of Malaysia commemorating the independence of the Federation of Malaya fromBritish colonial rule in 1957, celebrated on August 31 each year. This should not be confused with Hari Malaysia (Malaysia Day) when Malaysia was formed on 16 September 1963 together by Federation of Malaya, Sabah, Sarawak

Therefore we had our glorious meeting on the 24th August 2013, Saturday to commemorate our independence with our theme "The Independence Day"

The meeting started at 9.40am, it started 10mins late due to it being a lazy day, therefore, many of the role players were slightly late but the show MUST go on! So our SAA for the morning Yean Yi,CC started off the meeting and handed the control to the President Dylan Chew, CL to give his president's address. He got everyone to introduce themselves, where they are from and if they were the leader of a country, what would they do to make it a better country

The TOM (Toastmaster of the Morning) Azwan Jamaluddin,CC then stole the spotlight from the Prez in which it was his first time ever taking up this role!! "There is a first for everything"

He then got the role players to explain their roles and handed the floor to the TTM (Table Topic Master), Ahmad Tarmidzi (TJ) Johan, CC from UWM Toyota TMC for the....

TABLE TOPICS SESSION!

Most of the talking we do every day – simple conversation – is impromptu speaking. Yet for some members, TABLE TOPICS™ is the most challenging part of a Toastmasters meeting.

Benefits from taking part in table topics

  • Become more fluent.
  • Learn how you can, with a minimum of preparation, present your thoughts in a clear, organized fashion,
  • Learn to listen carefully and tailor your remarks to the question presented to you.
  • Practice drawing on your own knowledge and experience on the topic.

1st Victim: Subra, When would you want Independence Day to be?
2nd Victim: Seng Kiat, When is World Independence?
3rd Victim: Azwan, If you were TAR (Tunku Abdul Rahman), what else would you say? 1957
4th Victim: Shaun, What would your Independence Day be like?
5th Victim: Yean yi, What would you abolish for your Independence Day?
6th Victim: Melvin, Direct a 2nd Independence Day movie.

The TTM did a tremendous job in coming up with the topics and controlling the flow from one speaker to the next! After 6 compelling speeches relative to our theme 'The Independence Day', the spotlight was passed to the TTE (Table Topics Evaluator) Pravinan Lai, TM by the TOM for his constructive criticism and words of encourage for the speakers.

TOM then took back control of what was rightfully his, 'The Spotlight' and introduced to the audience what was next on the agenda. It was the...

PREPARED SPEECH SESSION!

First on the list was Melvin Tan, TM VPE of INTI TMC with his project speech 6 entitled: , and his 'SEXY' evaluator was non other than the VPE of Taylor's University TMC, Yean Yi, CC

Right after Melvin's fascinating speech, we then had a:

 RECESSSSSS! for 10mins

Look who decided to pop by!! (2 MIAs)
Subbra

Kam Wen Hang

SAA called meeting to order again, however... this time we had a slight change in plans. Instead of having the next speech right after the break, we went straight into the evaluations to buy the speaker's evaluator some time. So the TOM passed the control of the meeting to the beautiful Ms GE (General Evaluator) Sher Li, ACB, ALB from Sunway TMC and also a C4 Governor of 4 Toastmaster clubs to take control of the:

EVALUATION SESSION!

' The first feeling i got when i stepped into this atmosphere was that i was shocked! Very young and different environment compared to other clubs" Sher Li

The first evaluator : Yean Yi, CC gave her honest opinion for Melvin Tan's speech.

Right after her evaluation then.. only the 2nd speaker Shaun Liew,CC (Pic on Right) gave his speech with the Advanced manual: The Entertaining speech manual entitled 'The Winning Speech'

and

He was evaluated by
The Second Evaluator : Nor Lida Bt Dahalan, ACS,ALB, Area Governor for B3 (Pic on Left)

Right after Nor Lida's detailed and constructive evaluation, the GE then passed it to the Grammar Nazi (Language Evaluator) to give his report based on the good and bad usage of grammar

then to the

Ah counter to present his report of the AHH, UUMMS, LALA we all used

next was the

Timer keeper to give her report of each speaker's timing

Grammar Nazi: Lee Seng Kiat,TM

Ah Counter: Dylan Chew, CL

Timer keeper: Ashikin, TM

That's it folks!! Hope everyone had a great time!

Quality is always better than quantity

Happy Independence Day! :)
