Joint meeting between... Taylor's and Taylor's!

This is a story on the meeting of two long lost twins.

Luke and Leia.

Jim and Tim.

Fabio and Rafael.

Fred and George.

Taylor's University Toastmasters Club and Taylor's College Toastmasters Club. (We're the older twin of course.)

One fine Saturday morning, in a room named Lecture Theatre 4 in Taylor's College SS15, is when it all began. When the members of TUTMC and TCTMC met......

...nothing spectacular happened really. The joint meeting was called to order at 09:45 by the TCTMC Sergeant-At-Arms, Keven Cheang.

Keven Cheang. SAA. Topicsmaster.

In the spirit of Taylor's, and with the theme of TAYLOR'S STYLE, Keven, also the Topicsmaster, prepared topics that fits the bill.

#1 "Public or private education?"
#2 "Does Taylor's provide a good environment for learning?
#3 "Taylor's logo. We will get you there?"

TM Shalini (#1), TM Ian (#2), TM Eik Ren (#3), and TM Dylan (#3) were the brave souls that volunteered to speak on their feet!

The Toastmaster of the Morning, TM Marc, told some joke in between intervals to lighten up the meeting. And boy were they good!

"HEY! In which part of your body can you find Mickey, Donald and Goofy?"

"This knee."

Then the prepared speeches session began. Wilson kicked off with his speech on self motivation. He spoke characteristically, with passion, and with no signs of hesitance and nerves.

"Only when you have satisfied your physiological, safety, social and esteem needs, only then can you motivate yourself."

Then TM Imran from TCTMC delivered the second prepared speech of the day, talking about the types of artists we listen to. The speech demonstrated his analytical behaviour.

"There are singers, and then there are entertainers. Singers are the ones where you only need your ears to enjoy."

In the last prepared speech, boy were we in for a treat! CC, ALB Stephanie Teoh, delivered a speech from the Interpretive Reading Manual. She read out the story of "The Tell-Tale Heart" by Edgar Allan Poe, a famous American author from the 19th century.

It was a story about a madman, convinced that he isn't mad, murdering an old man, because he had the 'Evil Eye'.

"He had the eye of a vulture - a pale blue eye, with a film over it. Whenever it fell upon me, my blood ran cold; and so by degrees - very gradually - I made up my mind to take the life of the old man, and thus rid myself of the eye forever."

After the prepared speeches were done, the Evaluation Session began. DTM Fan Chen Keat, the General Evaluator conducted the session, and TM Shaun gave the first evaluation with his Table Topics evaluation.

For the evaluation for the prepared speeches, TM Shaun, TM Shalini and CC, CL Moses evaluated Wilson, Imran and Stephanie, respectively.

DTM Fan Chen Keat then summed the evaluation session up by giving his evaluation on the conduct of the meeting.

And before the meeting was adjourned, the two presidents gave their closing address.

CC, CL Zahir Ahmad. President. TUTMC.

 TM Jagan Narayanan. President. TCTMC.

And that, dear readers, was she story on the meeting of the two 'twins'. The two presidents, as well as our VPPR, Shaun Liew, deserve all the credits for their effort in realising this meeting.

It has been a successful and beneficial meeting for both clubs, and I will definitely be looking forward to more joint meetings like this. :)

Toastmasters is about improving the people around you, as much as it is about improving yourself.
