The Great Outdoors! 26.1.13

It's 9.30 in the morning, the sun is up, the birds are cooing among the branches, the grass is green and we're outside LT11..

For a TOASTMASTERS MEETING.

Say what?

Yes that is right, an outdoors Toastmasters meeting!

Chairs? PSHHT so mainstream! We have pillows!

Tables? Unnecessary! We have our laps!

Whiteboard? PSHHT.. We couldn't get one..now let's move on!

The meeting kicked off Zahir Ahmad giving his presidential speech followed by Dylan (the Toastmasters of the Morning) who led us to the invocation speech carried out by..

Yean Yi.

It was very motivating, captivating and is the perfect example of what invocation speech should be like. "Count your blessings because you only have one life. YOLO!"

Shalini who was obviously trying to make guys lose their female friends came up with super creative topics! Not to mention, really random ones as well!
Thank you daring first timers and brave volunteers for giving the Table Topics a go, congratulations!

Seng Kiat. Which is the more convincing sex, male or female?

Kiko (left). Which is the fairer sex?

Chen Keat. Should the male population be exempted from house chores?

Stephanie. Should the pains of wearing high heels be limited to females?

Dylan. What is your most embarrassing experience?

Zahir. Should tigers be allowed as pets? (THIS WAS SO RANDOM.)

Rachel. Who gives the best advice?

Shaun was the Table Topics Evaluator of the the morning.

Wilson then delivered his 5th speech (Appreciation, Outdoors!)  in the CC manual after the break and he was evaluated by none other than Chicken Little Seng Kiat. He told a story of how he fell hard for a girl, a girl he knew who was going to go away. He also shared his gratitude for some of the members of the club who showed him the ropes in his TI journey. Well done. Definitely made us want to cherish each moment we spend with our closed ones.

"She taught me how to live life to the fullest."

Next was Zahir who delivered his 2nd speech in the ACS manual, Humorously Speaking with the title Say It Aint So!He tells friend about crush. Everyone in the school knows. Crush knows. Oh how we all miss the primary school drama oh-so-much! The message was to never neglect your friends, never treat them like stones and throw them out into the sea. His evaluator was Stephanie (good to see you after so loooooooooooooooong! :D)

"Friendship is not a definition, it's a compilation."

Finally, the evaluations session led by Aung Ching Ching from Ireka TMC!
Thank you role players for keeping up with the speakers and giving us the benefit of how we did during the meeting!

Aung Ching Ching (Ireka TMC), the General Evaluator,

Ben Chan (Friendship TMC), the Ah-Counter,

Valerie Chew, the Timer,

Fan Chen Keat (Speecom TMC), the Grammarian,

Shalini Jayelkjawsfjhffaoweuh (hard to pronounce) (Monash TMC), the Table Topics master

speakers and evaluators!

A HUMONGOUS THANK YOU to the guests for attending, we hope you enjoyed the panache we strove to display & we hope to see your panache in action in the upcoming meetings.

Area B5 Joint Meeting! Take #12

Thankful for the clubs in our area, thankful for the people who push us forward.

Area B5 gathered in the KEU Toastmasters Club venue (which will be now known as the place with the view of Genting). Scope, Crystal, Taylors Uni and KEU were united by the area governor Ng Sok Teng who has done a wonderful job of bringing us together for a fruitful meeting!

Fruitful? Oh yes.

RM1 Angpaus, RM2 Angpaus and a RM10 food voucher as tokens of appreciation for the bold volunteers who delivered a table topics speech! Thanks Andrew (Table Topics Master from KEU) for motivating the participants to give Table Topics a go!

1. Francis Sales, TM from Scope came up first! attempting "What have been your fond achievement in 2012"

Quoting him "People don't take me for a shy guy, but I am!; I'm also a good Actor". He touched about his balance of work commitments which hindered his progress in Toastmasters when he joined in 2011.

2.Yean Yi, TM from TUTMC. "Red equals Chinese New Year".

"I don't really have a choice, every year I am forced to shop for red clothes for the New Year", "Red, resembles Luck, it is powerful in the mind of the Family!"
The point is, Yean Yi suggest we should respect Colours within cultures.

3.Shaun's angpao gave him a Food Voucher and "2012 Failed Resolutions".
"Who here doesn't have problems?"...<sneaky trick>"What happens if you stopped doing what you loved, because you couldn't anymore. This, is happening to me..."

To stay fit is Shaun's aim, but the way he is getting it done is more Realistic.

4."2013 Dream" what do you know. Linda Phoon also strives to keep fit/slim.

She shared she would go on a diet or perform cycling exercises to get her favourable figure.

She demonstrated flair and showed impressive body gestures to reinforce her message about how we SHOULD strive on our embarkment of Hopes.

5.Madame President of Scope, Kew Lee Seah offered herself to another angpao. It read "CNY Experience".

"It was the time we cleared the House, just before it gets messy again, then we wait until the next New Year..."
She delivered how her family had issues with hoarding furniture but always rearrange to make the house look, brand new.

6.Finale showed Alex from KEU, taking an Angpao with the topic being "AngPao".

Broad Topic yet tough to tackle in many ways. "Ang Pao, is not just to insert money,... it is a place for family to send their blessings.".
So, the next time you receive an Ang Pao, find out who it is from and count your blessings (literally).

Humor Master Lim (KEU) then joked about how life can sometimes teach you (women) not to lie about your age in many ways such as losing money in a single bet because you lied to an attractively good-looking gentleman that 24 is the same as 42.

Kheng Wee (Scope) completed The Icebreaker and the title of his speech was ..'Turning Point'."Singapore do you know where is that?'' "Oh yes I know Singapore!" "Oh, Malaysia is just above Singapore!" "What?!"

His Evaluator was Shaun.

Seng Kiat (Chicken Little) (Taylor's Uni) then proceeded to deliver his 5th speech from the CC manual, his title being 'Golden Slumber'. He stressed on how sleep is a physiological imperative, and started with his story of burning the midnight oil with a pinch of procrastination getting in his way."Being an architecture student taught me how to appreciate every second of sleep I get!"

His evaluator was Linda (Crystal).

Jane (KEU) presented her speech as well, "Conquering the Cold Call" from her Persuasive Speaking Manual! She tried to 'sell' her state of the art food processor to the very realistic customer Alex (KEU).

"You can call me anytime." *cue WINK ;)

Her evaluator was Kew (Scope).

Mushrooms (cupcakes from Mario), Coffee, Kuih and water were provided! The mushrooms were quaint but did appeal to many people Yean Yi and made them just Yean Yi take photos of it instead of eating them.

Thank you to all role players for making this meeting a successful one! We wouldn't have done it without you!

Resolution & Revolution 11th Meet

Two..Oh...One...

Welcoming you back to Toastmasters in 2013

BACK and Here is our 11th Term Meeting Updates!

President Zahir Ahmad welcomed everyone and got everyone to address each other with questions over their Resolutions, and Revolutions in the New Year.

Good Luck with that Book DTM Fan Chen Keat!

Next the Morning Toastmaster assumed his role.
Shaun Liew, the VP of Public Relation took charge of the Meeting and got the Role Players going with their task. Then it led to... Sacre Bleu!! Table Topics led by Yean Yi who doubled up as Grammarian as well.

Takers were...

Timothy Nakayama ( arrived just in time to be volunteered.)
Fan Chen Keat
Subbra
Aaron Ng
Joyce

(Topics not ordered accordingly)

Say what u mean mean what you say
Two wrongs doest not make a right
Honesty is NOT the best policy
Why love when u can hate
Love conquers all

Hesmond (guy behind YIN Yi) our compatriot from Monash TMC played Table Topics Evaluator. As an animated guy he demonstrated his opinions how the participants could have utilized their limbs more effectively. When he found the speakers talking too quick he mimicked them talking fast as a speeding train, which will leave audiences behind. Brilliant stuff. Bravo!

Prepared Speech Time.

Wilson's "Love is the new Revolution.".
The Forth Speech in the manual where every Word counts. We were treated with phrases like, "That face...Those eyes...", ""My Brain says take 1 step back but my heart brings me two steps forward", "We find the" - "Need to breed, or the Urge to merge". Wilson hopes everybody's love life gets accelerated this year!

Subbra, Shalini (Monash), & Wilson's Back.

Azwan's controversial "Savita".
Before the Speech, audience discretion is advised. We were in for more Hard Facts from Azwan as he have done his homework for his Research the Topic Speech. Quoting from many sources like BBC & Reuters he made it clear that "Evil prevails when Good Man do Nothing".

HALF TIME! We had food & Drinks for Once!
<No Pictures of Food & Drinks were taken in respect of the poverty stricken >

The funky "Oompa Loopa!" by Timothy Nakayama from Friendship TMC.
"My Crush was going to be MINE, ...until she fell for my best-friend"
Heartbreak, and also a story of friendship withstanding the test-of-time.
"Oompa Loompas get paid in Cocoa Beans","They don't expect too much to help a friend."
It was a happy ending where two long lost friends found each other back on the Social Network called Facebook.

Specialty speech #2 entitled "Crossing the Chasm" by Fan Chen Keat

Risk, in life, is everywhere. "Did I want to take up the Accountant exams?"
"If I failed one out of four, I could reseat for it", "If I still failed the same paper, I would have to retake ALL FOUR PAPERS AGAIN!"
"In the end, I officially passed my papers, which was clearly, the chasm in my life".
In uplifting the spirits, the crowd could see the kind of chances taken in overcoming Chasms.

General Evaluator who was David Lai (AmBank TMC) said that he's role was to do NOTHING but sit behind in the room. That was true until he came up to give his thorough observation of the Meeting Conduct!
He reminded the Club to off the projectors projection or someone might get cancer! Ok, he didn't say cancer.
Truly appreciate his comments and facilitation of the Evaluation session!! Thanks Scatman DAVID!

Guest, Meng & Joyce posing for us.

Timer & Oh - Counter of the day was Kent Lim & Chew Chui Ling who were undeterred from their roles presented flawless reports on their side. Kudos!

Kent Lim & Chew Chui Ling

And the Meeting Winners are...

"Oompa Loompa!" was best Speech

while...

"SACRE BLEU!!!!"

Best Table Topics & Evaluator went to Aaron Ng from Sunway Uni TMC!

Lastly, Toastmaster of the Morning Shaun Liew, signed off gracefully and passed control back to the President for this closing Address.
President Zahir Ahmad, CC CL closed with his remarks.

"Toastmasters International Executive Director said District 51 is the fastest growing District at the moment.
This shows, we don't even know it but we are already a part of a Revolution!"
"The TI tagline is; Where Leaders are Made. We hope to do this Words good."
"In this new year, keep on the chasing your Resolutions, but don't be blinded by the DESTINATION because even the JOURNEY is as important. Thank you, one and all. With that, I'll like to end today's session."
